Meet Quorum’s Newest Chapter in St. Joseph, Missouri

If you attended the recent HOW Retreat in Narrowsburg, New York, you may have heard the news – Quorum has a new chapter in St. Joseph, Missouri. The new chapter had a Summer Kickoff in July with over thirty women in attendance, excited to begin raising their voices and spark action.

With dedicated and enthusiastic co-chairs Carol Burns, Karen Foley, Natalie Redmond, Melody Smith EdD and Karen Woodbury, the St. Joseph chapter has a number of goals:

–Help women find and leverage their inner voices

–Create new pathways for women to advance into leadership roles

–Build awareness of women’s leadership through local high school education programs and mentorships

–Support the Madam President Camp which helps girls identify their individual gifts and pursue leadership roles


Taking Smart Risks is Key to Female Leaders Rising

In her article for Thrive Global, “Taking Smart Risks is Key to Female Leaders Rising,” Meg Sullivan explains that the bias that men are better risk-takers than women has been dispelled.

A new study on gender and risk-taking in the Journal of Business Research shows that women ascending to the executive suite must take more risks – and do so naturally – because undertaking smart risks can be a meaningful stepping stone. Having worked extensively in male-dominated industries, Meg had to take calculated risks to advance and be taken seriously. Over time, she found that risk-taking was the most effective means of gaining credibility and advancing.

Summer Socials in both New York City and Washington, D.C. were such a lift for all who attended. It was fun to catch up after gathering at the May HOW Retreat in Narrowsburg, NY.
